6/30: Natural Dyeing with Cochineal

195.00

Instructor: José Buenaventura González Gutiérrez

Saturday June 30th, 11 – 4pm

ALL LEVELS WELCOME!!! Advanced dyers to people who have never touched a dye pot before in their life!

Learn how to dye… with bugs! José (Zapotec master dyer, spinner AND weaver) will demonstrate his own personal techniques of mordanting and dyeing in order to achieve six different colors from this tiny insect. You will leave this workshop with six small skeins of wool, from rich reds to deep purples - all dyed with cochineal!

Cochineal feeds on prickly pear cacti and is cultivated throughout Central America. José raised his own cochineal in his native Mexico, along with many other plants that he used for natural dyes.

All materials and equipment rental fees included!

*Cancellation Policy: Luna Fiber Studio does not issue refunds, but in the case of extreme weather conditions, the fee you paid will turn into Studio Credit, and you will be able to use it towards any other service or product offered at Luna.
