Natural Dye Workshop: Fresh Indigo

Sunday August 31st, 1 - 4pm

Learn how to make these magical teals, turquoises and aquamarines with fresh indigo leaves, grown by yours truly. Each student will be able to dye their own 17” × 17” silk handkerchief using shibori (a Japanese resist dye technique).

We will also discuss some of the colonial histories of the indigo plant and go over traditional Korean fermentation techniques of extracting this incredible natural pigment. Come with curiosity and creativity!

This class will be outdoors at Remembrance Farm, 6294 Searsburg Rd.

Our Indigo Plants

Our indigo plants were planted at the end of May and have been growing fastidiously on Remembrance Farm, an organic and biodynamic farm down the street from our studio in Trumansburg. This class will be held amidst the peak season, where the pigment is at it’s highest and richest concentration, and we want to share our color with you!

This particular variety is a descendent from Naju, Korea and was graciously given to us from some natural dye friends in Baltimore. (Thanks Erika and Kenya!)

When you purchase a class with us, you are reserving your spot with our small business and committing to showing up!

In the case of extreme weather conditions or illness of the instructor, class may be canceled and the fee you paid will turn into Studio Credit, where you will be able to use it towards any other service or product offered at Luna.
