RESERVE A CLASS

Have a few friends who want to take a class with you? Reserve your own spot on a day that works for all of you, just email us to schedule a time! If perhaps you are all interested in learning a specific technique that is currently not being offered, please inquire and we can design a class for you!

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

We offer private instruction for small groups and for individuals. We can even make trips to your home if you have your own equipment! With private instruction, we are able to design a curriculum specific for your needs!

INTERNSHIPS

Seasonal and year-long internships are available for young adults who are interested in and have experience in textile arts, farming , and marketing/communication. We are now recruiting for our fall and winter season. Please email us and introduce yourself! 

SCHOLARSHIPS

We are now excited to offer $100 scholarships for low income youth and young adults. We also are collaborating with Alternatives Federal Credit Union to support low income families and communities.  Email us with any inquiries!

Time: Saturday September 26th & Sunday September 27th, 10am - 5pm

Level: Beginners- must have prior experience warping a loom

Designed as a follow up to our Intro To Weaving Intensive Workshop, this two day quick-paced project-based class offers you new challenges while you practice your skills under supervision. (Think of it as a little hand holding before you fledge!) Designing for a project with a goal in mind (in this case absorbency, durability and wash fastness) can be pretty complicated. Well, we’re here to make sure these towels are something you can brag about.

Saturday we design and warp: Using my favorite Brown Sheep cotton blend yarn, students will be able to prepare their warps using up to three different colors, and can choose their structure based on interest/skill level. (The samples shown are variations of twill, which may sound boring but can actually be quite complex!)

Sunday we weave: Spend the day zoning out to the rhythm of the looms, and leave with the most beautiful set of hand towels you’ve ever laid your eyes on. After washing on high heat, towels are approximately 16” x 25” each.

P.S. Our weaving class sizes are capped at 3 people maximum to insure that each student receives the one-on-one attention necessary for learning the weaving process. All materials and equipment rental fees included!

We of course understand that life dishes out unforeseen situations at inopportune times, however our class space is extremely limited and classes usually book up months in advance. When you purchase a class with us, you are reserving your spot with our small business and committing to showing up!

In the case of extreme weather conditions or illness of the instructor, class may be canceled and the fee you paid will turn into Studio Credit, where you will be able to use it towards any other service or product offered at Luna.

10/11: Board Book-Style Class

Instructor: Laura Rowley

Time: Sunday October 11th, 11am - 3pm

Level: No experience necessary! First time book makers welcome!

Ever been reading a kid’s book and you’re like, “wow this is utter crap, why don’t I just write and illustrate my own?!” Well now is your chance to! Local book maker extraordinaire Laura Rowley of Illuminated Press will lead this one day workshop where you can create your own 8 page book.

What to expect: Once you have registered, you will be emailed instructions on what to prepare. You will come to class with an idea/plan of attack for your 8 pages, and the first part of class will be spent finalizing your drawings/writing. The second half will be spent binding your book together.

*A Note: This book is not the super thick almost cardboard-y board books we often see at the store these days. Instead, it is an easy to flip (for those tiny hands), thick paged book using a Drum Leaf binding that is popular in children’s books. Of course this does not have to be made with small hands in mind - it is also perfect for a short story or even a book of poetry!

P.S. This class size is capped at 6 people maximum to insure that each student receives the one-on-one attention necessary for learning the book binding process. All materials included!

A Little About Laura:

Laura Rowley is a book artist, educator, and director of the Lodi Whittier Library. Laura first discovered book arts while attending Wells College. She then earned her master's degree at the University of Alabama. Laura has dedicated her work to share and honor the book as a material and cultural object by teaching community classes and operating Illuminated Press, a micro press that publishes handmade books.

10/24 & 10/25: Intro To Weaving

Saturday October 24th & Sunday October 25thth, 10 - 5pm

Level: First time weavers welcomed!

Join us for a weekend intensive to learn the ENTIRE process of weaving, from beginning to end on one of our beautiful four harness floor looms! You will learn basic weaving structures (plain, twill, overshot & lace) and leave with a small set of unique samplers.

During our first day together we will design our weavings, warp and dress our looms. The second day together we will learn how to read a pattern draft, and really focus on our weaving skills (like how to get a beautiful selvedge, and how to fix a broken warp thread).

This class is perfect for beginners, first time weavers and weavers who need a refresher course! All materials, equipment rental and maintenance fees included!

This class will be indoors at our studio, 27 West Main St. Class sizes are limited to 3 students.
